Sermons On "Holding Fast"(Rev 3:11):
- Bible Study by Mr Armstrong - "Zerubbabel's Temple" (given 21 July 1978 - played Wales UK 30th Aug 2003) (9.8Mb)
download stream
This Bible Study begins by Mr Armstrong recording a video clip to be used in the Feast Opening Night film. A little of this is missing on this particular recording. He then goes over the scriptures that deal with Zerubbabel's temple and shows how much of this material was actually talking directly to us in 1978 as Mr Armstrong was led to put the Church "back on Track". Such scriptures also talk of the same tasks that we today - in the 21st century - should be concerned with as we are - once again - led individually "back on Track."
- Sermon by Jon Bowles -- What is an Apostle. (given Modesto California 13th April 2002) (7.9Mb)
download stream
The sermon points out that "one sent" (the meaning of the Greek word "apostle") carries with it many vital things: Such a person was sent by God, not man (Gal 1:1), and sent for a specific reason -- to lay foundations within the Church of God (Eph 2:20). Such foundations imply illumination to the Truth for the first time (Rom 15:20) and must remain after an apostle's death (2Pet 1:15), as they were actually laid by Christ through him -- not by the man himself (1Cor 3:10-11, 4:16).
- Introduction by Jon Bowles - "Introduction to bible-study - The End Time Apostle" (given Wales UK 14th June 2003) (3.3Mb)
download stream
This introduction reviews the first 8 chapters of a booklet currently in preparation, the last chapter (chapter 9) being "The End Time Apostle" and dealt with in detail within the main bible-study. The preceding 8 chapters reviewed are: An Apostle is one Sent; Apostles of the Early Church; Laying Foundations; Removing Blindness - for the first time; Unity - Through Grace; The Apostle to Corinth; When an apostle dies; Our Spiritual Heritage.
- Bible Study by Jon Bowles -- "The End Time Apostle" (given Wales UK 14th June 2003) (11Mb)
download stream
This bible study examines evidence that Mr Armstrong was the prophesied end-time apostle. It covers: The end-time prophecies that one would come; Is this the end-time; The end-time Church in prophecy; Two alternative conclusions and their implications; Why the evidence points clearly to Mr Armstrong.
- Bible Study by Jon Bowles -- "Our Spiritual Heritage" (given Oswestry UK 19th July 2003) (11.5Mb)
download stream
This Bible Study examines the spiritual heritage left to us from Mr Armstrong. Six points are covered: Why we are called now; What the spiritual heritage is, and what it is for; The two trees; An administration of the spirit and not the letter; How the letter relates to the heritage; How the administration details relate to the heritage.
- Split Sermon by Jon Bowles - "Growing - While Holding Fast" (given Bristol UK 21 Jan 2006) (8.1Mb)
download stream
So many organisations - formerly part of WCG - try to justify their departure from the faith once delivered by quoting that we must "grow in grace and knowledge" (2Pet 3:18). But they fail to answer the real questions: Who does God indicate has the right to place Truth in His Church? What area must we grow in? What area must we hold fast, as commanded in Rev 3:11.
Recent Sermons/Bible-Studies:
- Split Sermon by Ian Henderson - "Lot and the Place of Safety" (given Bristol UK 19 July 2008) (6.6Mb)
download stream
Two people are mentioned in the context of the place of safety: Noah and Lot. Each were protected by God through the cataclysms that overtook their ages. When you look at the parallels with the end time, the example of Lot, in particular, is very significant indeed.
- Split Sermon by Jon Bowles - "Remember Lots' Wife" (given Bristol UK 19 July 2008) (8.8Mb)
download stream
There is a warning given to those facing the cataclysm at the end time, "remember Lot's wife" (Luke 17:32) But there is an almost certain maternal reason she looked back. The sermon examines: Our need to look forward; Our children are in a special category; Israel's prophesied return includes children; God's prophesied future includes our children.
- Sermon by Mr Armstrong - "Portland and Vancouver" (given 22 Sept 1984 USA - Played Wales UK 12 July 2008) (17.6Mb)
download stream
Begins: "In a way it seems strange to me to be back here in Vancouver, Washington. I lived here for 6 months in 1924..." Mr Armstrong then explains how aged 92 he can no longer read due to poor eyesight. He therefore gives this 2hr sermon without notes or Bible - but shows what God did through him - including his early work in Portland and Vancouver - to fulfil the prophecy of someone, coming in the power and spirit of Elijah, who was to restore all things shortly before Christ returns.
- World Tomorrow Broadcast by Mr. Armstrong - "The Parable of the Tares" (broadcast 11 June 1979 - played Wales UK 5 July 2008) (3.0Mb)

"And once again, let me ask, why does God permit wars? Why does God permit suffering? Why does He permit poverty and unhappiness on this earth?"
- Sermon by Jon Bowles - "Restore All Things" (given Wales UK 5 July 2008) (11.3Mb)
download stream
A prophecy given by Jesus Christ is that "Elijah truly shall first come and restore all things" (Matt 17:10-11). But there are those who dispute whether HWA could have been the fulfillment, as we don't know "all things" today. This totally misses what the prophecy says. This sermon examines: What the first Elijah restored; The lost century; The end-time needs; and The breadth of the gospel.
- Short Sermon by Jon Bowles - "God's True SEP" (given Oswestry UK 28 June 2008) (7.1Mb)
download stream
The motto for SEP (Summer Education Program) was "To Show God's Way Works". Today, as we get our thinking "back on Track" in so many areas, the correct approach towards this youth program should certainly be included. The sermon examines the 3 aspects of: Fun is forever; Teamwork; and Give it a go!
- Short Sermon by Mr Armstrong - "Address to Orr SEP" (given July 1979 USA - Played Oswestry UK 28 June 2008) (13.3Mb)
download stream
Begins: "I see they've brought a chair and a desk up here for me, and that's not because of age, because I'm not the age people think I am..." Mr Armstrong then talks about the core issue behind the SEP Camp. It is even related to the issue of why we all exist on earth today. That vital purpose, is the creation of God's Holy, righteous, perfect character -- the greatest creation of the Eternal God.
- Sermonette by Ian Munro - "Declining Standards" (given Wales UK 21 June 2008) (1.8Mb)
download stream
The institutions designed to uphold morality within our society appear to have been specifically targeted by those against such upright values. What we must understand is the spirit that is really behind it, and focus on the solution -- a completely new world under Jesus Christ.
- Sermon by Jon Bowles - "The Balance of Christ" (given Wales UK 21 June 2008) (12.4Mb)
download stream
When Christ came, not only did He die for sin and preach the Gospel of the Kingdom of God, but He also left an example for His people to follow. That example involves a life of balance in areas such as: Physically; Emotionally; Socially; Spiritually -- a completely balanced life as our mentor.
- World Tomorrow Broadcast by Mr. Armstrong - "Pagan Traditions and Christ's Parables" (broadcast 8 June 1979 - played Wales UK 14 June 2008) (3.0Mb)

"...and all of that. People still believe that just like Adam did. They wouldn't believe God. But we are mortal and we are dust, while we have a mind that far exceeds and excels anything that we find in the brain, for instance, of any other animal life we find on earth, such as dogs, or monkeys, or cats, or elephants, or snakes, or fish or birds or anything that you can see."
- Sermon by Jon Bowles - "Overcoming Failures" (given Wales UK 14 June 2008) (10.5Mb)
download stream
"We face the longest era of turmoil in memory" (Mervyn King - Governor of Bank of England) In such an uncertain climate, brethren are going to suffer failures -- loose their jobs, have businesses collapse -- suffering with the world. This sermon on overcoming failures therefore examines: Using God's view of True Success; Learning from others; Leaving the past behind; Using each new day; When we fall, repent and get back up; Always reach, and focus, forward.
Pentecost: (8 June 2008)
- UK Morning:
- Sermonette by Chris Hancock - "The Key of Zeal" (given Bristol UK Pentecost AM 8 June 2008) (1.3Mb)

Christ made the comment that, "the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force"(Matt 11:12) But what does it mean? The answer lies in the degree of zeal we need for the things of God.
- Sermon by Ian Henderson - "The Effect of Light" (given Bristol UK Pentecost AM 8 June 2008) (13.6Mb)
download stream
This day of Pentecost is unique when compared to other Holy Days, in that instead of being on a particular date, it is on a particular day of the week -- the first day -- the day on which God re-created light on the earth. This also has much to teach us spiritually.
- UK Afternoon:
- Sermonette by Ian Munro - "Offering" (given Bristol UK Pentecost PM 8 June 2008) (1.3Mb)

From what is seen in the news today, the time left for this age of man appears short. When giving an offering we need to recognise this and the true value of the spiritual material on our websites. Such material places the events into their proper context for those with the eyes to see.

- Sermon by Jon Bowles - "The Meaning of Firstfruits" (given Bristol UK Pentecost AM 8 June 2008) (12.8Mb)

The Day of Firstfruits, or Pentecost reminds us just how great is the difference between this present age and the age to come. So God's firstfruits must reflect God's Way, from God's Spirit, not the present way in the earth. The sermon examines: Creation of angels; What God is doing; Firstfruits shows this is not the only day of salvation; Two ways of life; Producing fruit; The firstfruit's purpose.
- Sermon by Mr Armstrong - "Middle East Trip" (given 28 Nov 1981 USA - Played Wales UK 7 June 2008) (13.3Mb)

Begins: "Greetings again everybody. Nice to be back. I arrive back about.... Let me see, I think it was about 5:30 or 6:00 this morning London time..." Mr Armstrong then spends the next hour commenting about the recent trip, and the final half hour giving a short sermon on the Holy Spirit. He stresses the vast difference between the natural and Spirit led mind. Without a mind that is Spirit led we will not make it and unless that new mind continually grows through prayer throughout life, our Spirit Life will miscarry. (short sermon also played in Wales 15 Feb 2003)
- Sermonette by Ian Munro - "A Soft Answer" (given Wales UK 31 May 2008) (1.8Mb)

Satan is described at the end time as "having great wrath" (Rev 12:12). As he is also described as "the Prince of the power of the air" (Eph 2:2), it is important that we learn how to deal with wrath in others -- influenced by him -- by giving a "soft answer" (Prov 15:1)
- Sermon by Jon Bowles - "Countering The 1960s Legacy" (given Wales UK 31 May 2008) (13.7Mb)

But if we are going to be used in the World Tomorrow under Jesus Christ, the values we will need are very different. This sermon examines: repentance; religion; morals; social change; media; and personal lifestyles -- all in relation to this crucial decade.

The recent cyclone in Burma gives us a unique view of something Christ warned all of us about: How "leaders" in this world masquerade as "benefactors" (Luke 22:25). It is important that we recognise this -- so we can more fully learn the correct Way that Jesus Christ both taught and followed.
- Sermon by Mr Armstrong - "The Church is a New Civilization" (given June 1982 USA - Played Wales UK 17 May 2008) (8.5Mb)

Mr Armstrong then goes on to show how just as this world began down a particular road of life, so God calls selected individuals -- to train them now -- to be the teachers of an entirely new civilization.
- World Tomorrow Broadcast by Mr. Armstrong - "Why Christ Used Parables" (broadcast 6 June 1979 - played Wales UK 10 May 2008) (3.4Mb)

"My friends, why is it that Jesus spoke in parables so that the people could not understand? Now we have always supposed, of course, most people have, that the reason that Jesus Christ spoke in parables was to make the meaning more clear -- sort of illustrated so people would understand better. But we have been seeing that He did exactly the opposite -- but why?"

- Sermon by Jon Bowles - "Passover -- The Big Picture" (given Wales UK 12 April 2008) (12.8Mb)

So often this time of year can be exhausting physically, and if we are not careful, we can find ourselves at the Passover service having not really taken the time to prepare. What we must do is to concentrate on the big picture. This sermon tries to guide us to do that by looking at: God's Plan; God's House; Footwashing; Sin; and Unleavened Bread.
- Sermonette by Bob Evans - "Gain Through Loss" (given Peterborough Canada 5 April 2008) (1.3Mb)

The Christian life does require certain things we formerly treasured to be lost. However, when we consider what is then gained -- there should be absolutely no regret. Recognising this is particularly important as we approach the Passover.
- Sermon by Jon Pippy - "Am I Building a Relationship With Christ?" (given Peterborough Canada 5 April 2008) (11.4Mb)

Most protestant churches seem to totally ignore the Father, and instead concentrate almost exclusively on their "relationship with Christ". However, what do the scriptures tell us regarding this important subject? And how does this understanding help us as we approach the Passover?
- Sermonette by Andrew Spellman - "The Power of Prayer" (given Peterborough Canada 29 March 2008) (2.6Mb)

On the approach to Passover, it is essential that we who are baptised take the time to examine ourselves. But we need to be very careful that we are indeed looking at "ourselves" -- not scrutinising others!

It is clear that the current financial crisis is coming not merely from the banks but from the people behind them. And to take this a step further, from the families they grew up in and the wider society. But looking at the news from this past week alone, it is clear that the real problem is spiritual.
- Sermon by Mr Armstrong - "A Positive Message" (given 1 Dec 1977 at Pasadena USA - Played Wales UK 22 Mar 2008) (9.6Mb)
download stream
Begins: "... Today I have good news for you - very good news. This Church needs a reawakening. ..." Mr Armstrong then points out that the word, "Gospel" means "Good News" -- yet the Church was concentrating far too much on the bad news found in the world. He then publically repents of his part in allowing the Work to move off-Track in this area. He also clearly explains that the responsibility to preach the True Gospel to the world was something given to him personally, not the Church.
- Sermonette by Chris Hancock - "Did Mary Have Other Children" (given Bristol UK 15 March 2008) (1.6Mb)

Scripture is clear that Mary was a virgin when she conceived and gave birth to Jesus Christ, as God was His Father. But some religions maintain that she remained in a virginal state until the day she died. Is that true? What does scripture say? This sermonette explains.

A king of Israel was supposed to write out for himself a copy of the scriptures so that "he shall read therein all the days of his life" (Deut 17:19). But the study of God's Word is not only something for ancient kings. It is even more necessary for those now preparing to become the Spirit-born Kings of the future -- destined to rule with Jesus Christ for eternity.
- Sermonette by Bob Evans - "Carnality" (given Peterborough Canada 16 Feb 2008) (1.5Mb)

Our previous worldly ways are symbolically buried at baptism. But even the apostle Paul recognised that carnality nevertheless remains a continual struggle in this life as we aim for "the fulness of Christ" (Eph 4:13)

During the time of Christ, carnal people had their faith rewarded at times by some spectacular miracles. But for salvation, the faith required is somewhat different. Such faith must be the same kind of faith Christ himself had: A living faith that originates from God, and which enables God's children to go "the long-haul" -- trusting Him, come what may.

Many people look on the God of the Old Testament as a harsh stern monster -- whereas, they view Jesus Christ as abolishing His Father's Law and instead simply forgives all and invites them to "come as they are". Nothing could be further from the truth found in scripture. Mr Armstrong then expands on the forum the previous day: Why Ambassador College? and explains how the whole world has lost its way -- including the "christian" religions who merely want to "receive Christ", and "GET saved". But the true Way of God is a way of Give, not get. And the True Church has a vital role -- to become the Spiritual Temple to which Jesus Christ will return.

In the sample prayer, Christ gave us a clear indication that when beginning to pray we first need to get our minds off ourselves, and onto God. An important aspect of this, is to better understand God's approach -- where He is "coming from" -- and notice how both the historical and the prophetic always seem inexorably linked together.
